The UV index is a number between 1 and 10 (values above 10 are indicated with 11+), which measures the intensity of the solar radiation that reaches the ground. The color used to represent each value follows the convention of WHO (World Health Organization).
The human skin is classified into six groups depending on the predisposition of the skin to tan. The type I is the most sensitive, type VI the least sensitive. Children are to be considered to have skin type I.
The setup page allows the user to select the type of skin between the six different groups, which will then be used by TanSafe to suggest appropriate protective measures. There are also the following options:
Show UV for current time.
Enable this option to display the UV index present at the current local time, disable it to show the maximum UV index forecasted for the day.
Show UV for actual cloud coverage.
Enable this option to display the UV index corrected for the attenuation due to clouds or rain. Disable this option to show always the UV index for clear sky condition.
When the application is started it finds the current location (using the iPhone location services) and than contact the server to have the UV index forecast for the day. These values are updated automatically every 15 minutes or if when the settings are changed.
The main screen always displays the following information:
- Location name
